The medical community has more power over your kids than you realize. When my kids were about to be middle school age, they had an appointment with a man at their doctor's office who wasn't their doctor. He asked me to leave the room, which I did since my kids had each other in the room.
I didn't go far, because those boys could and would hit an adult of they felt unsafe. So, I'm standing outside the exam room thinking, " please behave, please behave, please behave, please behave". When suddenly I hear, " wtf is wrong with you?!" More profanities, and I simply spoke up through the door about having respect for adults.
My son grabbed the door open, and told me the doctor was trying to coach both boys into saying the adults around them were being inappropriate. (But, the boys being together prevented that imo.) My response of the time was that the fill in doctor wasn't familiar with my kids ability to get out of hand, and I was trying to be nice by keeping them in check. That doctor took my being strict as an indication of, " abuse". Their regular doctor later asked me not to make any appointments if he wasn't available, because the fill in doctor was causing issues for other patients.
I will never forget that making sure your children behave, and speak respectfully was considered by that medical professional to be a sign of abuse. Lord knows what would have happened if I had allowed my kids to misbehave.
That reminds me of the family that had their baby taken away because they took their second opinion, and the first opinion reported them. I read a different article, but that ego ruins lifes.
