As a protestant, I must say Catholicism has done far more for science and philosophy.
However, because it is so rigorously hierarchical it was much easier for them to subvert.
Also, I don't know much about the "2 Lucias" thing, but looking at the photos, it is conceivable that they are the same person imo.
