Not odd at all. Things can always be paywalled for a future premium experience which is just the original experience without all of the useful features removed. They had to make it freely available for all in order to crowd source as much data as possible to streamline it's advancement. Money is fake and gay. If they cared about money then ESG scores and multibillion dollar companies would stop going broke after going woke. This is about control. They'll burn all of the china/fiat bucks they need to obtain it.
