I think you'd have to be naive to think otherwise. Governments around the world are very strict about who is allowed access to top secret information. Espionage is a real thing. To think that the discovery of Aliens wouldn't be amongst the most classified information, and people would be allowed to live if they ever blew the whistle, is very naive.

Again, the whole reason people put their face out there is to make it harder for actual retaliation.
Again, when it comes to something like aliens, the government would know what they were planning to do before they did it and would have them killed.
