As for the big bang, it is as good a theory as any. Many people need to get a better handle on what "nothing" really is. Nothing is everything.
We live in a zero sum universe. It is an equation. If you add up all the positive forces and negative forces, you get nothing. At the quantum level, particles come into existence and disappear all the time.
For all we know we are on a giant pendulum cycle of energy contraction/expansion, and eventually all matter will reverse course and recombine into nothing.

I find the Diehold Foundation to be an interesting and viable theory. It's a spin on the holographic universe.
