So it is just about Google/Apple slaves. For normal people nothing changed.
In 90s there was no omnipotent search engines. AltaVista was not much better than someones self-hosted htdig. People exchanged interesting links on forums, by mail, NNTP and IRC channels.
In 00s there began inflow of sheeples who was too dumb to find anything by themselves so BigTech gladly rush to satisfy that herd with "more comfortable" tools. Because normal tools was "too complex" for that dumbfucks who want to use a thing without knowing anything about it. They didn't care about those who used to find info by 90s methods.
In 10s BigTech swim in a flood of sheeple to internet, carefully creating a "comfortable internet" for them, with bells and whistles, alongside with selling their data left and right. But the point is that 90s internet didn't go anywhere. It was still here, with all tools it had in 90s.
In 20s BigTech itself fall into an illusion that "internet" is only all that web2.0 crap they pushed and there are no anyything else at all. Fucking Google/Bing/Ynadex/whatever even don't bother to index IRC channels or even FTP servers. So now we are back to 90s state of internet. Just along with that old thing, BigTech build an "internet for idiots".
I don't care about the future of "internet for idiots" at all. And I don't care about idiots who don't want to know how the things they use actually work. They definitely deserve what BigTech build for them. Those who have some brains will find a way to find anything. Those who don't could eat shit as long as they want.
I'm not sure. We've been discussing that search engine optimization, and censorship hit certain areas a whole lot harder than others. Searches everywhere already show you what they want you to see rather than what you were looking for. It's rage inducing for me because I already use -(pinterest) or mostly -(fact check). And, I can tell you the results are mostly exactly what I told the search engine I didn't want. I use multiple browsers so I can more easily compare pages. It's stupid.
You could easily rise your own search engine, that will scan and index sites you are interested in. Today it is much simplier than in 90s, because of progress in PC power.
You don't need nor Google, nor Apple, nor Microsoft to have everything you need from internet in the way you want.
Why do you care what Google want or don't want to show you?
And "using multiple browsers" is a bullshit. There is only 2 browser engines that could show you modern web2.0 crap - Chrome and Firefox. So, in the best case you could have only 2 browsers. Everything else is just a one of 2 browsers with different skin and with some probability, different surveillance endpoint, like that Bing or Brave shitty Chrome-based browsers.
If you need really independent browser, look for NetSurf or some other attempts to make a general pupose browser. But hardly you will able to normally view some Twitter or other shitty web2.0 sites. Well, conspiracies.win mostly works, but looks not very good.
