its called a sunspot... its been happening on the sun for literally...
billions of years...
but those sunspots can erupt into CMEs. and cause something like a carrington event. if that happens? we'll be back at the stone age.
oh i realize that... there were previous eruptions that we've actually missed .. thankfully the earth was not in the path of those charged ions
