It’s jing that gets depleted. You’re born with only so much prenatal jing, it must be replenished via other means, such as internal alchemy (neidan, for example), weigong and diet.
Jing is one of the Three Treasures often discussed in Chinese Medicine and Taoist Meditative practices. The two other treasures are Qi and Shen. The concept is a few thousands years old and most Westerns have not heard of it, so I’m not surprised.
