I'd like to know what those three lights are above the hill on the far right.
They're easier to see if you open the image in a new tab and zoom in.
Edit I did a very basic "enhancement" to the "lights" basically just adjusted the exposure levels a bit. There seems to be a triangular-ish object connected to those "lights"

Could be anything from bad film, processing, compression, decompression, loss in photoshop, or 1,000 more ways. Then again, it could be reflections off Kubrick's glasses.
My guess is most of these shots were done with scale models. The right side of the image definitely shouldn't be darker if illuminated by the sun.
I like the pics where rocks are in front of the crosshairs.
