Sure though keep in mind it's the backbone of the modern economy. Would be worse than lockdowns on causing widespread economic shutdown

I'm too lazy to look at Italy AS interconnection map, but is it possible they have very few connections from abroad, possibly monopolized by single telecom? If that telecom has problems, whole country will suffer.
