Even though Osama wasn't a mufti, a legal religious scholar, he issues a Fatwa in a very small Palestinian newspaper, Al-Quds Al-Arabiya, in London, England (10,000 readers) submitted via Fax.
This is how he calls muslims around the world to engage in a Jihad with the West? It was probably the smallest Arab newspaper in the world.
This is the founding piece of evidence that Osama is behind the World Trade Center bombings?
I don't buy it. Anyone could have submitted that Fatwa in his name. It's such a small newspaper, half-way around the world from Afghanistan, that ObL would not have had a chance to refute such a submission.
No, he 100% did issue it, and it did fly under the radar. This was also around the time he started doing interviews with CNN and NBC too in order to “get the word out”
He also had no standing as a religious leader and later had to justify this fatwa by pointing to one issued earlier by Omar Abdel-Rahman (the blind sheikh) to justify it.
