All I can really say is 99% of people didnt have the funds required to own slaves.
But it wasnt just jews who owned slaves, and that party is highly debatable. It doesnt look like they owned slaves themselves, but the financed and profited from the slave trade. People also get triggered but they should remember...
Most Americans, used to imagining slavery in terms of cotton fields and the Old South, don't realize that the transatlantic slave trade sent Africans primarily to South America and the islands of the West Indies. According to one well-regarded census, 9.6 million Africans arrived alive in the so-called "New World" from the 16th century through the 19th century. Of these, less than 5 percent, 427,000, were brought to what is now the United States. Nearly 4 million went to Brazil, the largest single devourer of African labor. There, the average life span of a slave was a few years.
Also when researching this a while back, discovered the spanish share a huge blame of the problem.
OUIDAH, Benin — Less than a mile from what was once West Africa's biggest slave port, the departure point for more than a million people in chains, stands a statue of Francisco Félix de Souza, a man regarded as the father of this city.
There's a museum devoted to his family and a plaza in his name. Every few decades, his descendants proudly bestow his nickname — "Chacha" — on a de Souza who is appointed the clan's new patriarch.
But there's one part of de Souza's legacy that is seldom addressed. After arriving here in the late 1700s from Brazil, then a Portuguese colony, he became one of the biggest slave merchants in the history of the transatlantic slave trade.
Not that white people arent to blame, but all races seemed to profit from the slave trade, including african americans themselves. As it was often a african american who would kidnap people for the money.
But what exactly do I owe in this race?
My ancestor was a scout on the union side of the civil war. They obviously never owned slaves. Part of americas history since the beginning.
Your average person wasnt concerned about profits and using/raping everything they could.
And honestly I dont believe people should be held accountable for something their ancestors did long ago because every generation of children is a chance for change.
But you know, black vs white, cant have the poor rising up on the rich now can we.
