Obviously there could be both kind of "bots" - those who upvote and those who downvote by reading the headline.

IDK, I don't really care about that karma/points stuff myself, but sometimes upvotes those who reply with some interesting point/argument regardless of my agreement with their point. Also I upvote interesting topics to have them in "Upvoted posts" list. Rarely downvote some really ignorant things.
