It's historical fact that the silver screen actors changed their names to allow them to appear more, "American". I'd cite this, but I learned it so long ago in can't recall where I learned it.

Issur Danielovitch, also called Izzy Demsky, would agree. Oh. I meant Kirk Douglas. In the 1940s even though the studios were all run by Jews, the actors couldn't be seen to be ethnic.
