Probably because you believe it does. Why do you think it looks like a spaceship / what is spaceship-like about it?
If there were no such thing as spaceships, what do you imagine it might look like instead? Some say/have said a wheel of cheese.
The presumptive answer is that that is the direction the light from the sun is hitting it. There are certainly other possibilities, however.
Do you think that the sun was designed to heat us and then the moon was designed to cool us?
I've seen people explain moonlight is cooler because the shade provided to block the moon also blocks heat escaping to space. Is there an experiment which has controlled for this?
