Yeah. Sounds like a hawk kill. They peck and rip away the meat and leave a bunch of feathers.
A bobcat or fox takes the bird and retreats to thickets to devour it. A hawk or eagle will rip the bird apart where it is at and leave a mess of feathers.
I see hawks, crows, and larger birds attacking smaller birds and their nests all the time. It's usually a lot of loud bird chirping (panic) and birds chasing each other around.
I even woke up to birds screaming in the middle of the night because a raccoon climbed all the way up a tree and feasted on its young. Nature is cruel.
That said, I have read that birds falling out of the sky is a warning sign that you have toxic levels of 5G in your area. I don't think it would cause them to explode, though.
