Yes, I don't believe the idea of debt fully covers it and since it offends you, I'll explain it better. It all comes down to seperation. In the beginning, there was no seperation from God, He was always present, physically and otherwise. You could have literally woken up and talked with God over morning coffee. At some point the idea of seperation entered the realm of possibility and a decision was made (by us) to allow this seperation. Now there is this great distance between us and God, and it is not in His nature to tolerate evil. Evil is only able to function in the empty space created by seperation from God.(God is good and evil is the absence of God) This new way of living pains everyone involved and God is the only one that can correct it even though He's not the one that made the decision to invite seperation between us. God is literally the biggest bigger man and takes one for the team to reunite us. We were never meant to do this on our own and it is God's preference that you are with Him and far away from evil.

Edit: death and eternity can begin at any moment. You can choose to live with God before and after you die or you can choose to live without Him before and after you die.
