I don't know what they want to happen at death. I think they may believe in consciousness transfer as a way to immortality.
Maybe the goal of the ritual is to transfer her consciousness into a new body? But they failed? Did they fail due to an opposing occult faction?
If we are in a prison planet, is permanent death what they want? So they aren't thrown back into this system and used by Archons as energy?
If we are in The Matrix type simulation, is permanent death meaning trapped outside this simulation?
