That works without need for a globe, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
Is it was empty space....sure. but it's not. The air is fluid...we just don't see it. But it is still a fluid.
To make it more clear. It would require the earth to slow down or speed up it's spin in a relatively quick timeframe for us to notice. The momentum would be steady state on the surface and near surface of the earth..
Like all things, this take everything out of context and presents flaws.
That diagram is not referring to a 'near' sun....nor 'flat earth'....
The models make a point of stating their assumptions....which....if you were a scientist and engineer would need
