Not to naysay the point, I know there's a lot of extra crap in N American food.
That said, when in Europe there's a lot more walking as stuff is closer together, less need for a car In general.
When I was I Europe I think I lost nearly 20 lbs in 2 weeks, but we were walking everywhere all day everyday. We didn't eat particularly healthy, lots pizza, bacon and eggs, takeout, kiosk sandwiches and stuff, drinking fair amountof beer. I think it was was the physical activity that did it for me....

Agreed. Don't forget about the high fructose corn syrup that they don't have in Europe too!
