I would say that that's not just a rhetorical question, but close to the heart of the matter. They've always been here, right next to us, and we never really took note.

Could you be paid enough to participate in such an act? Almost certainly not. Though they look superficially just like you and me and everyone else, reflect deeply on how different they really are in consciousness (or lack thereof?).
