It is best to understand the nature of religion before you abhor it - it is given a house, and it is something that whenever something aspects that house, there is a demand for rationalizing and giving form to that which we have experienced and felt.
Not understanding or accepting that (not saying you do not, but without much question, the spiritual community at large doesnt), means that the answers are chosen for you, rather than you using that energy and choosing your own.
It is precisely what has lead to the rise of the Church of The Science.
