It does not make sense for Big Mike at all. The elections are fixed so all the left needs is someone with enough charisma to be a plausible winner.

Big Mike gets invites to all the fun things like gala balls and celebrity parties, and important meetings like Davos, so why bother with all the boring duties of VP when you have enough money and great connections to live an easy life into retirement without the hard work?
