Soda is alkaline. If you make your soap with a higher lye content (very alkaline) and it will be more aggressive. The problem is that it starts to become corrosive -- like dissolving aluminum, hair and other fibers etc.
That's based on saponification of a fatty acid (unless your bar soap is detergent)
I would call that a liquid soap not a detergent, i.e. laundry soap.
Detergents are a little more aggressive.
I have used both. I'm going to disagree with you on the difference in effectiveness. Have a great Sunday fren.
