Mankind has been expecting Doomsday any day now as long as written records have existed, at least. <Insert still waiting skeleton meme>. I think it's just a byproduct of being self aware and mortal. Doom is actually impending for each of us.

Hard times are coming short term, but not our doom. In the grand scale of human history, we are in the golden age of golden ages.
