He wasn't informed about it, he helped to design it with Ralph Baric. He knew it, because he was part of the inner group of designers for the spike protein (he was the bag man funneling money to the actual biochem designers) in Univeristy of Chapel Hill and Wuhan Institute of Virology.

I think this begs the question if you caught covid do you have HIV? Is it even possible?
