Actually, he's valid. Competitor Amazon owns a company called Zoox that is right now building robotaxis. I began to interview with them and quit after I found out who owned them. (Also, they gave me a diversity questionnaire before interviewing. In other words, they wanted to know my race and gender before hiring me. I told them to take their diversity and fuck off.)

A lot of the autonomous vehicle companies are here in the Bay Area because of Stanford's AI department. And that is the problem: their cars get tested in California perfect weather. I guarantee they will be shit in Minnesota. For example, a snowstorm will make the point-cloud laser scanner vision produce complete garbage.
Tesla may think they can make robot cars but these will probably only function okay in Calif and Texas. Not safe on muddy or slick black ice streets. Puddles screw up the road view and any street markings.
