I believe we are descended from these beings, that they likely did mix their dna with the local humanoids.
But I highly doubt our creators were human, they were certainly bigger than us. Kinda makes sense you would engineer a subservient species to be physically smaller, weaker, dumber than you.
I think they look at us like a sin, they tried to let us perish once (great deluge), and one of them defied the rest to save some of us anyway. After that they didnt want us to perish, but they cant just let us leave this planet before we are ready.
Look at what we do to our own species. There is still hunger and war and greed. Could you imagine the destruction and pain that humanity would leave in its wake if it was capable of exploring the stars? I firmly believe we are not ready for the technology that we currently have. Our creators knew this and they know we could easily wipe ourselves out which is a fate that I feel is rather common amongst the stars.
