Which makes me wonder why would they even let us know about this.

It's either:

A test run of what happens to YOU next because of the latest Covid variant this winter
The Elites are picking up the spoils because the rest of the world already smell their shit. China however didn't. Therefore, they HAVE to play it in China because it's the only place they have actual ground.
