I heard once that the Founding Fathers discussed whether to have a state religion, like every other country. The proponents argued that people needed the moral guidance organized religion provided. Seemed like backwards patriarchal nonsense at the time.
Now I'm finally starting to think that this was a feature of all human societies because the vast majority of people (NPCs) actually have no inborn moral sense. They only "learn" it from external sources telling them what is right and what is wrong.
The critical observation here is that no one who pays attention to the MSM asks why they're only hearing one side of the story. Nope, they're just receiving a "moral download". So every time I see someone make a point like this, I toss it on the ever growing pile of evidence in favor of the thesis.
