I don't mean that they are necessarily the good guys, just that they are not the bad guys in this story (re: gas prices). If the oil companies had their way, as long as we did not allow them to have a monopoly or collusion between them, they would happily pump all the oil out of the ground that exists and it would cost us $.50 a gallon for gasoline.
