Geordie Rose was the founder and CEO of Dwave the worlds first quantum computing company.
Hes done tons of presentations and talks about the future of computing but a few very interesting things keep popping up.
the tech they used to develop there computing is based on magnetic fields + Nerul network.
what this means in the most basic terms is they use super cooled magnetic to create fields that seamlessly connect to all devices capable of connecting.
think magnetic field hivemind with no cables. pretty cool shit from 10 years ago.
so the thing about computers is it doesn't matter how strong they are they still cant compare to the human brain. Sure in dedicated crunching of numbers, a computer beats us, but our brains can do things a digital computer just cant. our imagination allows a level of flexibility
emotions, empathy, creativity, deception (could a computer learn to lie? or maliciously deceive? not on its own.) are things that a computer cant mimic.
things like our ability to subconsciously pick up on patterns of behaviour and make predictions off those. Take deep blue for an example, chess super computer that beat a world master. but like every other computer out there it has a ceiling. humans dont have a ceiling, we can get better, and this was proven when deep blue was beaten.
anyway what im getting at is that Geordie Rose knows this, and he been spending 10 years talking about how hes figured this problem out and the solution would be to make a network that functions like the human brain does...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqN_2jDVbOU
the reason why it has to function like a brain does is because of how we are able to predict different outcomes. Humans have the ability to subconsciously take in information from a variety of sources. we then analyze the information, the effects and repercussions, potential actions we may take and even predict the outcome and effect of our potential actions because of it, all instantly done within our brains(some to a lesser degree).
this is what they mean when they say dimensions.. dimensions of possibility
heres were it gets real Juicy. so theres no way to make a network function like a brain, and even if you they did, you wouldn't want just one brain, youd have to have many to assess and compare outcomes. the more the better.. do you see where im going with this?
if not here's the tldr
the quantum computers ARE FOR CONNECTING THE "DIVEICES" TOGTHER, the devices create a Nerul net, the Nerul net allows the creation of a Human like AI that could effectively PRIDICT THE FUTURE. all seeing all knowing.
and the best part is this "device"... is going to be YOU
P.S. 10 bucks says they name the AI Lucifer
AI is completely fictional. It isn't real today, and it will never be real in the future. Ama!
Quantum computing IS real, and is particularly useful for optimization problems - NOT anything and everything.
jack ma man, give me your thoughts on AI.
Absolutely! It would be my pleasure brotha!
The computer is a glorified abacus. It is not, fundamentally, any more complicated than that nor capable of anything beyond that.
The only AI that exists today is as a result of rules (and human slavery). Rules that are painstakingly made by humans primarily through trial and error. The computer can follow those rules, and even come up with new ones based on (aforementioned) pre-programmed rules to do so.
The only such "AI" systems that exist (or can exist) require constant maintenance and human intervention. They always will.
Whenever you hear "deep learning", "AI", "machine learning" etc. you are almost exclusively hearing a stupid and/or lying person trying to con investors. Tune it out, it's all fiction.
We can probably figure out a way to wire a brain to a computer, to make the human interventions quicker and more dystopian/horrific/demonic - but the "ghost in the shell" will remain entertainment and fantasy. There is no "singularity", that is also entirely fictional and once again, that is its sole origin!
Will we have the "computer" from star trek? Yes.
Will it be capable of human thought, of course not! But it will be a useful tool. Like an abacus.
As usual, disagree and/or share any thoughts!
