Bolsheviks has taken over Russia, Italy, and Spain. As they encroached on Belgium and Poland it's not surprising that the neighboring countries grew concerned. What's curious is why France assumed they wouldn't be affected.... instead turning their attention 100% to the East rather than the North and Southwest flanks
I would say that the French "Deep State" was also part of staging the Grand Guignol. I couldn't possibly locate the link now, but I was convinced of this after hearing the account of a high-ranking Wehrmacht officer involved in the initial German invasion of France.
He said that they had moved so fast and so aggressively--which was what a Blitzkreig was based on--that by the time the lines had stabilized, the Germans were (as I recall) something like three days away from collapse and withdrawal. Then as if by magic, French resistance evaporated and the Germans were able to resupply and continue. There are a dozen or more such "miracles" sprinkled throughout the European Theatre (<--hmm) that belie the orchestration.
And history gets recorded when they mythologize one of those miracles like "Dunkirk" and turn it into "the feel-good hit of the summer". A hundred Leni Riefenstahls would have work these days.
