Read about the Spectacle and the Situationists back in college.
"The idea of a permanently distracting and preoccupying spectacle, which obfuscates the oppressive nature of capitalism, has been adopted by artists, activists, critics and academics as a key philosophical concept in the current moment of late capitalism."
Unfortunately that spectacle seems to exist in every distraction fake event we see weekly now and supports the system. Polemic events, crimes, viral videos. The blue-dress internet debate seemed like a test. Maybe release some photos that are a little more blue or little more gold or whatever. Then repeat with more shootings, crimes, etc.
Traveling to other countries and seeing how YouTube is different sheds light on what they are doing, and they have been doing it for a long time.
In one country I was in, a video that I used to be able to watch was made to redirect to the YouTube home page. There was no "The video is not available" message of any kind, or even a page not found error. The video simply might have persuaded people to vote against the head of state.
I've also been to places where YouTube censors videos sympathetic to Socialist ideology. Welcome to the club.
