I had a thought about this the other day and whether it’s true purpose might have been to disrupt shortwave from China/Russia thus forcing reliance on satellites
That's super interesting. I wonder if they could have used this to jam certain numbers stations.

They also have a weird buzzer signal that they send out 24/7 on 4625 khz which rumor has it is a dead man switch
