Does anyone have good resources for what exactly each role of the United States Government is supposed to do? I understand the constitution is a framework, I am referring to resources that are well sourced and ideally not from the last 100 years or if they are then perhaps not something that is propaganda filled.
I am trying to understand what is the purpose, authority, and capabilities of the different roles in the US government from the top down specifically. A history of when new powers where granted or old powers removed would also be helpful. The last 100 years would of course be included in anything historical.
I am trying to get an understanding for where we started and where we are from a "job description" type perspective.
Thanks in advanced.
Worth posting in parallel society as well, as their focus is on societal power structure and economy
Solid crew; very resourceful with a ton of combined knowledge and motivation to put a pencil to paper to make real positive changes in our lives
I think it’s what you’re looking for, my fren

Federalist papers
They are found online free, too. They were a sales pitch to get states to ratify the Constitution and were, in the words of those who were there at the convention, what they thought the original meaning of things were.
Be prepared for some dense 18th century language, but well worth it.
I would also recommend the anti-federalist writings as well. They had very cogent criticisms of the weaknesses of the Constitution. The anti-federalist Brutus (they all took pen names in those days) and his criticism about the Supreme Court, for example, should be read immediately after reading Federalist 78 and Alexander Hamilton's pitch about the Supreme Court.
For antifederalits, which just means they were for keeping the Articles of Confederation, I would recommend the book "What the Antifederalists Were for" https://www.amazon.com/What-Anti-Federalists-Were-Political-Constitution/dp/0226775747
But there are other sources to find their stuff online for free.
Interesting I’ve never read about the anti federalists
The Annotated Constitution is a good starting point: https://constitution.congress.gov/
The purpose of the federal government is to settle interstate disputes and protect the international border... An argument can be made for protecting merchants abroad (see the barbary wars, creation of the Marines)
> authority/capabilities
World's largest military... As far as legal framework, I've never seen anyone truly go through the research to document it- good luck
