Louis Pasteur, "renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination" (quote from wikipedia) first got the idea for vaccines from reading the Talmud, or at least listening to rabbis discuss it. There is a passage in there where the wise old rabbis advise that if a rabid dog bites you, kill it and eat it's liver at once to stop from getting sick. I first read this on twitter, looked it up and had it confirmed on an unironic celebration of Jewish influence type website.
