Yeah, it's impossible to look back into history and see how ancient people thought about things. If only they had some way of preserving their thoughts somehow, perhaps with some sort of written language. It's not like we have some way of knowing what Hermes or Pythagoras or Laozi thought about the mysteries. Shame we'll never know.
