The normies are still in a world which is 'normal' for them. For them normal means:
You can trust the government
You can trust big institutions
The mainstream press gives you good information
If you follow the advice of the above three, you are an intelligent, good citizen
Basically they want to believe that they have good parent figures in their life and they can stay smart and well-behaved little children. Sheltered by the loving parents, who they want to make proud.
In order to go back to the real normal, to the life before 2020 they would have to give up this comforting illusion. So they rather stay miserable for who knows how much longer, just to keep this worldview. Most of them don't want to feel endangered, it's just losing these parents, having to grow up and having to lose their identities as well-behaved, smart and praised children is more frightening than anything the new normal brought to them until now.
