I think that it's impossible to get an actual control group. You'd have to have beings that have been exposed to no imagery or culture, etc.

In a very distant past, I was heavily into psychedelics and experienced many things including what one might call entities, but no machine elves, reptilians, humanoids, etc. Those imagery archetypes have never held any interest to me though.
