But still, there's a reason why people by into the Soviets or Khmer Rouge. These regimes were (presumably deliberately) set place right after a legitimately dire situation and take advantage of them. AND THEN they will deliberately misdirect/disorient you just to lead you into their draconian death policies that WILL actually lead to mass deaths.

Sorta like what we are experiencing now. The rule of thumb is it's nonsense unless you look at what happens before and during each communist revolution.
