I used to wonder. Then I heard Muslim countries have a severe inbreeding problem. Did my research and holy fuck it's worse than I initially thought. So I looked at Africa, similar problem.
Then I checked out the influence of inbreeding on IQ and suddenly why certain parts of the world are fucked up made a LOT more sense.
US military says sub 80 IQ are so much of a hindrance they should be kept out of the army.
Well if an entire cou tries IQ average is below 80, suddenly their problems make a lot more sense.
We (the west) actually make this problem even worse by only allowing people over IQ of 80 immigrate (it's not a requirement but you basically have to be way over that to meet all the other conditions) so we in essence steal all of their smart people with brain drain, which prevents these places from ever actually fixing their problems themselves.
The best thing we could do for these places long term is stop stealing their smart people and start educating them on why it's bad to have babies with your 1st cousins/siblings.
