I'm sure it works the same on Chromium browsers, but if you have Firefox, you can have multiple search engines and select which one you want to use from either the url bar or the search bar.
This way, you can make the switch to an alt-tech search engine while still having access to other search engines. For example, I use Startpage.com [google results but with privacy] to search for images I can't find with ResultHunter.com.
I also use this feature for Amazon (prices/reviews), YouTube, Harbor Freight, and eBay. It helps reduce a bunch of page loading and clicks by doing a direct search from the url bar.
Problem is ... it's difficult to add default browsers with Vivaldi. There's a curated list for the default ... but you can use anyone you've added if you use the "{letter} {search term}" schema.
