Let's say Stalin found a literal god-damned Stargate. First of all, how long do you think that would take to reverse engineer? Especially if there's materials not found on earth at all.
Secondly, you think he would walk up and give that secret to Hitler or churchhill?
It's not "dead end" tech. It's literally controlling all of our lives more and more every single day that passes. Saying "don't use a phone that tracks you" is ridiculous. You have no idea
Any technology have an idea and implementation. If you are not ready to implement it for some reason, that does not stop you from developing and studing idea. So, if Stalin had found Stargate, we will at least have a good theory of building and using long-distance wormholes. All that relativity theory is proven wrong. Physics changed hugely to adapt to new knowledge. Something like Alcubierre drive, that needs exotic matter or negative energy (Casimir vacuum, may be) to work we don't have in hands in necessary amount yet.
You can't keep secret forever. Nuclear bomb was first build in US. Do you know how long that secret lasted? Why did US gave that secret to USSR, Israel, and even Pakistan?
Bipolar transistors invented in 1947 is obsolete. Technology that controls you uses MOSFETs, that have nothing common with 1947 bipolar transistors.
How do you know that? You have no idea on type and history of trasistors tech uses now. Hardly you have ideas about how more complex things works.
They didn't, it was espionage. Which is why thieving bolshevist scientists built a reactor with a positive heat coefficient and subpar control rods which lead to a runaway reaction during a routine power down experiment because they had no idea what the fuck they were doing.
Maybe a Stargate isn't a good example because they could use it. Giving Lambo keys to a toddler is more appropriate. We've seen semiconductors for a hundred years before but they didn't understand the mechanism or the applications until postulated in the 30s and material science to do it wasn't around until late 40s at least.
I learned you, vadim. Saying "don't use a phone that tracks you" is like saying "drive a car without wheels". Just, no
