There was for a time. The government made it so lucrative to sit at home and do nothing thanks to the pandemic payment protection there was no need to work. In fact some people were earning more sat at home than they did at work
I was in Hilton Head on holiday. The local Starbucks mgr there said they have to close at 3pm, because they had no-one to work, and she was already doing 70 hours/week.
Was the same for every resort. Lack of what things used to be...simply because they didn't have people to do the work. Getting $2400 (at the time) extra a month made not working an easy choice for most.
So, those "unfulfilling jobs that don't pay enough" were hard to find pre-covid. Most servers at the resorts were college students making some serious dough. Now that the places are open, everybody wants to go spend money and have a good time. That means even more tips.
My kid made close to $2k/week during summer there. But she busted her ass and worked several places. All you're doing is looking for excuses.
it would be insane to expect most people to not collect the check and be more wealthy than they have been in their entire lives
You know that you're taxed on this "wealthy income" right?
