If we go through a highly charged part of space (remember earth is flying through space, all the time) or if we get hit by an X-class CME, then it's bye-bye satellites, bye-bye most of the cellular towers and bye-bye most of over the ground telephone wires => back to pre-internet and pre-telephone times.
