Not op but you know there is more than just Catholic vs Protestant in the Christian community, right? There's also Eastern Orthodox - the half that rejected the Catholic half in the year 1054. Orthodox has confession, all of the sacraments, the reverence of Mary and the saints and the Eucharist but they reject the changes the formerly western orthodox (which became known as Roman Catholic) came up with.
I am about to start RCIA as I was baptised Catholic but never went through first communion or confirmation. I do not like the pope - I think he is probably a secret satanist or some shit - but I do like my local church and my local priest.
I don't think any church is perfect which is why I am willing on giving Catholicism a chance (and the fact that it is the most familiar for me).
