Dude what? I agree that it "revenge" is a poor choice of words for the justification given at the time. It was framed as having to root out "al quada" in countries that were supposedly giving them safe harbor in their massive complexes of underground cave systems they claimed they were hiding in. It was never called "revenge" but thats what we all demanded at the time and figured we were getting. I would have been in favor of going to war with Holland if they said thats who did it at the time.
I was 20 years old and remember it vividly as it was closet to home. I live in Northern VA right outside of Arlington and my mom works at Dulles airport where one of the planes took off. I bought everything and didnt see thru the obvious BS of the events that day and the resulting wars and loss of individual liberty that I had no problem with in the immediate aftermath.
We will never know what truly happened that day, who was responsible and what the motications were for the wars that followed. I can certainly speculate, but all I know for sure is it didn't happen the way they say it did and those who benefited from it was the our own government and their MIC friends in the private sector.
