Hostility by them is to be expected. IMO the the goal for everyone should be to wean themselves off google products in the first place, and to hopefully build viable alternatives. Maybe consider changing your activities when under a VPN?

Using an alternative search engine? Also I get wanting to use youtube, but maybe their are ways around it (even if you lose perks)?
