"Gold standard" test for SARS-CoV-2 does not exist, and never existed.
To create "gold standard" test for some substance you have to experimentally prove, that the test detects that substance and only that substance. This could not be done without pure sample of target substance. Since there are no single sample of isolated (truly isolated, i.e. pure virus without anyting else in sample) SARS-CoV-2, there absolutely can't be any "gold standard" test for it.
And this is apart the fact that PCR is a manufacturing technology, not a test.
